What Has Happened to China After 60 Year of Communist Party Being in Power?

Standard

Few days ago China celebrated the 60 anniversary of communists ruling. China a country with a population of 1.3 billion is the most populated country in the world and the third largest country by area in the world after Russia and Canada. A country with a very long history of 5000 to 7000 years and a nation that enriches the world’s civilization by many valuable inventions such as paper, gunpowder and compass. The communist party ruled this country from 1949. At that time China was one of the poorest countries in the world after several decades of wars with Japan and a civil war between different parties in the country.

The economic rising in the country started in the 1970’s when the government allowed personal ownership of land and enterprises. The country invested highly in rising literacy that was about 20% in 1949 and became over 96% in 2005 (UN). Major economic activities in the country are manufacturing and farming. Two years ago the country became the biggest exporter of goods and products world wide taking the lead from Germany. China applied the one child policy to control the population. A policy that thought to reduce the projected increase in population by 250 million people. Last year China had the fourth highest GDP in the world after USA, European Union and Japan. The GDP boosted from 17 Billion in 1949 to more than 4 Trillion this last year.

Great successes in major areas for the country but there are some major issues to take in mind. The biggest issue to consider is the pollution. Air and water pollution may have major effect on the health of Chinese people and this will affect the country’s production and development. Another issue that must be controlled is the inflation rate. The inflation of goods’ prices may increase the cost of production, hence the competitiveness of Chinese products in the global market.

Despite all the issues that were discussed previously, there are two major questions that must be revealed in the future. The first question is; Does the economic success of China affect the major economies of the world? The second question is; Does a powerful China affects the political map of the world? I think it does and in the future this will become even clearer.
